At AIHR we're looking for a Head of People to join our team.
Full-time · Rotterdam HQ

Are you passionate about building culture? Do you want to create a great employee experience and build our employer brand? Do you want to shape HR strategy and execute it with your team? And does being the Head of People at the largest online educator of HR professionals worldwide excite you? Then this is the vacancy for you! AIHR is looking for a Head of People.

About AIHR

Founded in 2016 with the mission to future-proof HR, the Academy to Innovate HR (AIHR) has become the world’s market leader in online training for human resources professionals. We have a global customer base across 140+ countries, including companies like Unilever, Reckitt, Goldman Sachs, Philips, Deloitte, Nike, Heineken, and UBS. It is our goal to continuously educate 100,000 HR Professionals by the year 2025.

We are an international team of 80+ people, driven by excellence, innovation, and a hunger to grow in everything we do.  As such, we strive to provide the world’s best courses and excellent support to our customers while continuously optimizing every aspect of our work. With over 30 nationalities, our team is diverse, yet we all share a few traits: we are friendly, enthusiastic, and great team players.

Being a fast-growing company, working at AIHR means taking on a lot of responsibility and getting countless opportunities to develop yourself in new areas and craft your role.

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will oversee the HR function at AIHR. This means you will work on HR operations, help execute the company strategy through people policies, culture building, and HR interventions, and build an organization that can take us into the future. You will:

  • Translate the business strategy and people needs into a cohesive HR program that enables the organization to achieve its goals while supporting a great experience for our teams!

  • Be operationally responsible for many processes and policies. The HR team is small, so your challenge will be to execute and scale HR operations as we grow to 200 people by ensuring a great employee experience while complying with employment regulations.

  • Communicate and partner across all departments and levels, using various methods to engage and create clarity. This will be vital in ensuring that the HR strategies align seamlessly with the overall goals of AIHR and that initiatives are adopted successfully by our managers and their teams. You are an ambassador for open communication and use qualitative and quantitative feedback to drive an excellent employee experience.

  • Manage a team of 4 (one HR generalist and a three-person talent acquisition team) and together, you will implement identified initiatives and create a feedback loop that drives continuous improvement. You will also be accountable for fostering a positive, inclusive, and innovative work environment, ensuring that every employee feels valued and understood.

We have been working with an interim consultant, Gemma, who helped us set up solid foundations for employer branding, pay benchmarking, HR systems, and feedback. However, there’s still much operational work. We want you to take over from Gemma, innovate, and elevate everything to the next level to help us stay an attractive employer and further embed HR best practices across the business.

On a typical week...

On a typical Monday morning, you start the day with the preparation of the weekly People team standup to hear from the team on what their priorities are for the week, any support they need, and to share any incoming information that will help with their deliverables.

You have carved out some time to work on the phase two plan for our LEARN skills framework. We recently implemented the core skills for career progression and want to add role-specific skills to this to drive even more transparency for progression and ensure every team member has clear expectations on the skills they need to move forward.

After lunch in the office (prepared by our in-house chef Rik), you work on configuring a prototype of a new Growth Talk Process in Personio. We implemented Persionio as our HRIS a couple of months ago, and we’re continually adding to it, including transferring our ATS from Homerun.

Before going home, you record an 8-minute video to share the findings and next steps for our bi-annual ENPS survey.

On Tuesday, you meet with Duska, the Talent Acquisition Team Lead, to work on a critical hiring prioritization plan that meets the organization’s needs and considers the skills of the future that our organization needs.

Afterward, you help our People Ops Specialist, Chloe, evaluate the feedback we’ve received about OpenUp, one of our initiatives to promote mental well-being in the company. The reviews are raving, and you think of a good way to communicate this to the organization.

On Friday afternoon, you will meet with Nando, the CEO, for your bi-weekly to discuss how you would like to move forward with the Growth Talk process, update him on an initiative related to recognition that you’ve been running, as well as AIHR’s DEIB strategy for which we’ve hired a consultant to do research. At the end of the day, you join the monthly wrap-up meeting, where you present what you’ve achieved with the people team in the past quarter. Looking back, you’re happy with the progress that has been made.

Although we work hard at AIHR, we do celebrate our successes and like to have a good time with each other. After the wrap-up, we celebrate with drinks and burgers in a nearby bar.
